Eye Pillows
Our eye pillows are made out of 100% cotton and are naturally dyed in-house using flowers, seeds and vegetable powders.
Each one is filled with Australian linseed, and organic lavender and chamomile flowers.
Fabric ~ We use 100% cotton in our current eye pillows, which comes to us unbleached. This provides a blank canvas to naturally dye the fabric to a colour that we desire.
It takes up to 2 weeks from prepping the fabric, dyeing it, and then the final wash. It’s a long process with lots of measuring and weighing, but the end result is unique and satisfying.
The Process ~ The fabric is sectioned off and is weighed. It then gets washed with natural soap to ensure the fabric is all cleaned and ready to be soaked in its mordant. A mordant is applied to the fabric, so the natural dye stays on and doesn’t wash off in the future.
Once the mordant fabric is dried, it is then ready to dye, which can take a few hours to get the desired result. It is then dried away from direct sunlight for 2 weeks to ensure the colour doesn’t fade while it is processing.
It is then washed again with natural soap and dried. Quality checks are then done to ensure there are no faded spots or blots of colour throughout the fabric.
Once all good to go, then we are ready to make our eye pillows by sewing and filling them up.
Inside ~ The main ingredient in our eye pillows is Australian linseed. Linseed is a light grain and won’t cause any heaviness area the eyes, as the eyes are a delicate area.
Also added are organic dried lavender and chamomile flowers. These two powerhouse ingredients are a beautiful blend of calming goodness.
Benefits ~ The light acupressure on the eyes from the pillow, helps send messages to the brain to relax and wind. It also is designed to help soothe tired eyes, which are caused from too much screen time.
It can be used as a cold pack for your eyes; place the pillow in a muslin bag and put into the freezer for 5 minutes.
Best Tip - In winter you can warm up the pillow in the microwave for 5 seconds, this will escalate the scent from the flowers.
